Good

The Redmi Note series from Xiaomi has helped shape what the budget smartphone segment in India is today. We've had some iconic phones such as the Redmi Note 3 (Review), Redmi Note 5 Pro (Review), and now the Redmi Note 7 Pro (Review), all of which upped the performance ante in the budget segment by introducing powerful SoCs under Rs. 15,000.

Redmi Note 7 specifications and features

The Redmi Note 7 features a Snapdragon 660 SoC, which is a chip that’s become increasingly common in the sub-Rs. 15,000 segment thanks to price cuts over the past couple of months. On paper, it’s not as powerful as the Snapdragon 675 that the Redmi Note 7 Pro is built around, but it’s more than enough to handle its fair share of work.

The fact that you can get this much power for just under Rs. 10,000 (with the base version of the Redmi Note 7) is an achievement in itself. The Redmi Note 7 starts with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage at that price, and the variant we’re reviewing has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage for Rs. 2,000 more.

The Redmi Note 7 also supports dual 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5, three satellite navigation systems, FM radio, USB-OTG, and the usual variety of sensors.

Redmi Note 7 performance, cameras, and battery life

Armed with a good set of specifications, it comes as no surprise that the Redmi Note 7 is a good phone to live with for most day-to-day tasks. The processor has enough power to handle the usual social and productivity apps that we all use, and it even does a good job in games.

Unlike the Redmi Note 7 Pro, the Redmi Note 7 doesn’t have any heating issues. Sure, the phone got warm after we played heavy titles such as PUBG Mobile for a little while, but it wasn’t severe enough to make us take a break between gaming sessions.

The Redmi Note 7 is a tall phone, but MIUI has a one-handed software mode that can be activated with a swipe gesture on the Home button. We found this to be a little buggy, and it wouldn’t work as expected most of the time.

Apart from the quick fingerprint sensor, the phone also has AI face recognition. This is decently quick under good light and there’s even a raise-to-wake gesture, but it isn’t reliable in low-light, and it refused to work properly for us.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
